CLOTH CULTURE
Oct 3 - Nov 17, 2019
Cloth Tone, in collaboration with the Lake Country Art Gallery, has curated an exhibition opening Oct 3! The exhibition, Cloth Culture, brings together six contemporary artists to explore the tacit emotional and experiential resonance achieved through the active labor of material production and bodily awareness. Works by Cloth Tone (Larissa Beringer and Lindsay Lorraine), Beth Howe, Zoe Kreye, Tiziana La Melia and Holly Ward manipulate and engage with varying textile materials and time-intensive (slow) processes to produce a series of propositional works that value an underlying investment in labor, mobility, and self-engagement. Revealing a sensitivity to the inherit value of bodily experience, tactility and form - a certain vibrancy calls attention to these artists’ relationship to our basic human needs for tactile experience, meditative movement, nature and local economies of scale. In turn, Cloth Culture challenges our relationship to cloth, craft and consumption.
POLYGON GALLERY SHOP
KODACHROME SERIES
limited edition raw linen/cotton hand towels now available at the Polygon Gallery Shop in Vancouver!
Pulling inspiration from the shops mandate to reference the photographic sphere, this work reference a Kodachrome theme that was developed specifically for the Polygon. Using a blue-green & red-orange pallet as a starting point, bright weft yarn is woven between the negative spaces of linen muting vibrancy yet blending with the linen's sheen to become radiant. Included with the work is a custom designed bookmark which doubles as a price tag printed using a risograph printer via Moniker Press.
AD HOC COLLABORATION
It’s been so much fun working with AD HOC, especially when we’ve got to model some of our favourite designers with CLOTH TONE textiles. AD HOC represents the work of independent women designers and the collection is amazing. We particularly love Atelier Delphine, Ilana Kohn, Micaela Greg, Priory and Rachel Comey! Cloth Tone Weekend
Together, Larissa Beringer and Lindsay Lorraine have been designing and weaving as a partnership since 2018- exploring what it means to make slow cloth in a sustainable and embodied way - broadly exploring themes related to the body, labor, environment and materiality. In July 2019, Cloth Tone invited four artists to join them in the Okanagan for a weekend of foraging, natural dyeing, cooking, swimming and skill sharing on themes across their individual practices. The Cloth Tone Weekend nurtured new relationships and a feeling of wholeness through the simple act of slowing down in an open, creative space. There was an acknowledgment for the necessity of human connection in creating a sustainable future. So, with a commitment to engaging in curatorial projects that gather artists together under themes related to contemporary textiles, sustainability, the body and our well-being - the exhibition Cloth Culture took shape. If we turn our attention to cloth as a means for living sustainably into the future what are the possible outcomes?

ADHOC Interior Textiles
Jan-May 2019
We’re so proud of the one-of-a kind, custom, handwoven textiles we designed and wove for Virginia Bray, owner of ADHOC in Penticton, B.C. The series of eight curtain panels function both as a decorative, textured backdrop and as a series of functional change room curtains. Woven using natural undyed, unbleached linen, hemp, cotton and wool intermixed with details of plant dyed wool (marigold, goldenrod and onion skins) spun by Larissa’s grandmother, Ilse Beringer, the panels offer privacy and translucency of light simultaneously. Throughout the store you’ll find chunky cotton/linen chair covers and our classic pillows slips on down filled cushions. The combination of white walls, eclectic lighting, handmade plywood shelving and independent fashion labels create the perfect back drop for Cloth Tone’s unique aesthetic to shine.
